As we celebrate today and remember the important legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we give thanks for the progress we have made together in this country. But we also pray and strive for the progress that still needs to be made. I was reminded of the work of Christian civil rights champion John M. Perkins, who at 87 recently penned these powerful words:
“I believe that if we can get it into our heads and our hearts that we are one, we will make it. We are one human race. We are one blood, all created from one man, Adam. And we are saved by one blood—the blood of Jesus, the Son of God who gave His life to reconcile us to the Father—and to one another.”–John M. Perkins, One Blood (p. 171).
Please join me in praying that we see that vision become ever more a reality in the body of Christ!
