The Lord has taught me many things this year. One of the most important things God showed me happened while in Utah.

The week before we traveled to Utah, our class learned all the ins and outs about Mormonism, and not only just what they believe, but how, as Christians, we can counter their twisted beliefs with the truth of the Gospel and the Bible. This week was so fascinating to me to learn about another religion that believes something so similar, but so different. We left for Utah knowing a lot about Mormonism and Christianity.

There was a moment in Utah where everything hit me. I remember spending the day evangelizing to Mormons and conversing with them. We were discussing the differences in our religions to get to a point where they wouldn’t have an answer about their religion and leave them with a “stone in their shoe,” so they would leave thinking about what we said. I remember listening to their answers to our questions and most likely responding with something along the lines of, “I felt… therefore Mormonism is correct.”

We got back to the camp that night, and I remember vividly thinking to myself that I wasn’t much different than them. I am a very emotional person, and I think a lot of my experience with if the Lord was close to me in my situations was based on how I felt in the moment. God really showed me through Utah that my faith is not in how I feel but in who God is, what Jesus did, and what I did not do. The Gospel does not revolve around me in any way, shape, or form, but revolves around Jesus. The Bible is full of truth, and whether I feel the Lord or not, He is constant. He is present. He never leaves. I am the one wavering in my constancy, not Him.
