Student Blog Written By: Jonathan Sorrels, Fellows

When I first came to Impact 360 Fellows, I remember looking at the calendar and seeing student-led evangelism day and worrying about how I could possibly do that. Evangelizing random people was something I had never experienced before, and all I could do was wonder what it would even look like.

However, throughout the course of Fellows, I began to experience more and more what it was like, and when student-led evangelism day came around, I knew what to do.

The first thing that gave me clarity was reading Tactics by Gregory Koukl. This gave me a framework for how to interact with other worldviews. It gave me clarity and allowed me to better understand how to approach all of my disagreements.

Next, I remember going to Auburn for an evangelism day. Up until this day, I remember worrying about how it would go. Would I know what to say? Would someone get mad at me? Would I get kicked off campus?

However, when the day finally came, I was surprised at just how willing people were to discuss their worldview and hear about mine. I just remember sitting in Auburn and thinking about how much easier it was than I imagined it to be.

Then came Utah. We spent the entire week before Utah learning how to talk to members of the Church of Latter-Day Saints. It was truly surprising to me to get into depth about their beliefs, and it was even more surprising just how prepared I was when I finally got to Utah. Speaking to the people in Utah, I was surprised at just how open they were to hearing my perspective, and how readily they shared theirs. Every conversation I had felt deep and impactful, and throughout each conversation, I gained more confidence in sharing my faith.

Then came student-led evangelism day. Not only had I grown in my ability to share the Gospel, but I also had put almost the entirety of the Fellows program behind me. I felt more equipped and knowledgeable than ever about my faith.

To me, this year has helped to grow in many ways, but one of the most significant has been evangelism.

What all of this has shown me truly is just how easy it is. I always thought you needed some elaborate plan, but all it is is a conversation with someone.

I plan to continue to have these conversations, although it may not look like having an entire day spent dedicated to evangelism, with speakers and a stage. It may just be sitting down in the dining hall with a stranger and having a 10-minute conversation, but it is truly wonderful just how much I’ve seen God work through small conversations just like that.
