Before I came to Impact, I would say that I was a strong Christian, but looking back now, I’m not sure that I had a completely solid foundation or understanding of how I should live out my faith.
I came in very insecure in myself and in the ways that I was supposed to be living for Christ in a community. Throughout my time at impact I was consistently pushed out of what I thought my comfort zone was and saw that I was able to be more confident in my faith than I thought I was. I needed the push to see more than I had before and realize that it’s not me doing the work in my life, but God through me. Now I am much more confident in my identity in Christ as well as in my ability to live for him well.
One of the experiences that has impacted me the most was when we went out and did evangelism throughout the year. When we first started, I was so nervous and anxious that I could barely say anything to the people I was talking to, and by the end of my time at fellows, I was able to start spiritual conversations with people I met anywhere. It has really helped me to grow in my love for sharing the gospel, and now I desire to go out and share Christ with people.
If I hadn’t had the set aside times for evangelism, my faith would not have grown and been shaped in some of the specific ways it has over the past year. And getting to do this with my classmates alongside me has helped me to see growth in them in sharing the gospel. It’s also been a beautiful thing to be recognized by my peers for the growth that has happened in me with my confidence in sharing the gospel.
Coming out of Fellows, I plan to attend university and study business. I want to continue this life of evangelism I have begun to cultivate during my time at Impact. I want to continue the rhythms and habits I have begun here to continue pursuing a life of evangelism and sharing the gospel. I want to invest in people younger than me who need the gentle push I needed to begin evangelizing. I think it’s helpful to have someone older than you come alongside you to help you step outside of your comfort zone, and I hope to be that person for someone else.
I want people to know that attending Fellows is not a one-and-done thing, but an experience that helps to shape and grow you into someone who implements the things you learn into your life. You are stretched in ways you don’t think you need to be, and you come out a better person for it. The Lord really does work in your life in the ways that you least expect, and it’s a truly humbling and beautiful experience.
I wouldn’t change my time at fellows for anything, and I’m so thankful for the opportunity that I was able to have during my year.
