Student Blog Written By: Samuel Lui, Fellows

At the beginning of my Fellows year, I entered with uncertainty.

Given I hadn’t found a Christ-centered community before, I was unsure of how I would fit into the community. I continually asked myself the questions, “Do I really want to be here?” and “Will people like me?” I operated as if my life was in my hands and not God’s. I said I was living in faith that Jesus had died for my sins, yet I believed that it was only by my own power that I could change. Still, I had tried several times to change and turn from my sins before, but it never worked.

Going through the True Face module at Impact truly changed my perspective on God.

Reading “The Cure” by John Lynch helped me learn that God is not disgusted by my sin with His back turned away; His arms are open, and He is calling for me to return. God taught me that He wants to know the real me–the one that doesn’t hide behind performance and people pleasing. He loves me the way He created me. Nothing I can do can separate me from His love.

When reading Dallas Willard’s Renovation of the Heart, I learned that the process of spiritual formation usually goes by the VIM pattern: vision, intention, means. You have to see the importance of being formed, you have to be willing to commit, and then God will provide the instruments.

God is changing me. I no longer believe that He is only a wonder-working God for everyone else except for me. He is for me.

Something that God gave to me this year was a lovely brotherhood. During the Manhood Retreat, I was able to experience what it meant to have brothers and live a life as a Biblical man. Now, I am headed to the University of Texas at Austin in the Fall to study civil engineering.

Seeing the emphasis Impact 360 put on church membership, that is something I want to intentionally pursue first. Remembering the good that God did in the Impact 360 Fellows community, I will strive to create a culture that is focused on Christ above all other things, based on the ultimate blessing and goodness that God has promised us at the end of times.

God has given me a good season. That is the truth. But he is not finished working in my life yet. He has so much more for me.
