Washed in Agape – Noah Holmes

Student Blog Written By: Noah Holmes, Fellows

My understanding of how to live a flourishing life as a disciple of Jesus expanded tremendously over the course of my nine months as a Fellow. As a relatively young believer with little experience inside Christ-centered circles, it was an absolute blessing to grow and thrive alongside ninety-nine other college-aged students.

A moment I can remember as distinctly formative was the prayer room available during TrueFace week—and the tears shed on my knees within it. As someone who hails from a non-denominational, Baptist-leaning church background, it’s not often that I find myself in a more traditionally charismatic space. That being said, it’s in these expressions that I have felt closer to God than ever before. Within the prayer room, there were multiple stations, each centered around God’s character and His view of His people.

I walked into that prayer room during a week in November feeling deeply reflective and quite weepy. The first thing I saw was a wall full of names for God, with the different names that my classmates had written. I saw “Guardian”. I saw “Protector”. Most importantly, I saw “Jehovah-jireh,” which is exactly what God had been to me in this season. Another station had letters of gratitude written to the Lord, and in writing mine, I felt the Father’s grace and Jesus’ agape wash over me. In remembering every minute detail that Jehovah-jireh had ordained and provided for me, I felt more peace than I had felt in years.

How does this carry forward? Well, in experiencing God’s love and grace, a Christian is empowered to share it. In learning how to live through abiding in Christ’s love, in His agape, I can invite others to share it. At the University of Florida, where I will call home for the next four years, I am both allowed and commanded to bring this love to my dorm and my wider campus.

To every person who has blessed me with prayer or generosity, I cannot thank you enough for allowing me to experience both the hugely powerful moments and the beautiful mundane on Impact 360’s campus.
